Gio ju
She trained and explored in Subbody Resonance Butoh School(Dharamshala, India) for 5 years, starting in 2010 and she has been facilitating subbody Butoh class at the school and in various places. Along with subbody butoh, participating in the creation of company, "Ten Pen chii" (by Yumiko Yoshioka) in 2013 and the lesson from Butoh master Masaki Iwana have became the core of her own butoh research.
She has been running the <Butoh Himalaya>, a Butoh school in Dharamsala, since 2025, and has been facilitating <Butoh in Wheelchairs> in Hungary since 2018, and Butoh workshops and Butoh gatherings in Asia and Europe.
“For me, Korea, Japan, and India have taken root in multiple dimensions. In Korea, I had a fateful encounter with dance as a child and awakened the realm of the energy, invisible body, with a Korean traditional martial arts master, shamans, and a special yoga teacher. This process blossomed into a fateful flower with Butoh. Butoh has shown me all the answers that I was exploring. I have been influenced by many butoh and dance teachers, but I have been especially inspired by all participants in the workshops we created. Recently I have been developing a new approach between strong concentration and complete relaxation with new teachers and co-researchers. Since 2010, India has become the home for body and soul with the practice certified Ashtanga yoga and Vipassana meditation, exploring the dynamic interaction between stillness and movement. Now, through Butoh, I am organizing projects in Asia and Europe to experiment with small communities of NO BOUNDARIES.”

I’m a butoh midwife
Butoh Himalaya School
In subbody Butoh, there is a midwife instead of a teacher. When we explore the space between ourselves and the world through Butoh, hidden story, character, emotion, memory, and relationship, etc. within us are embodied in our bodies, just as a fetus comes into the world. Midwife creates multidimensional support for the subbody fetus, listening all internal external conditions. The midwives listen to the body together, dance together, and resonate, integrate with blurring the boundaries between participant and midwife.
